Job Description

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a member of the Patient Care Services Team. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the satisfactory completion of nursing care by the nursing team. The RN manages and provides patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members including ancillary and support services. The role of the Registered Nurse at the DMC encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, teaching and supervision. The RN delegates, assesses, provides and evaluates patient care. The RN assesses, monitors and evaluates patient status by observing the patient, noting data collected by other team members and analyzing this information to independently develop a plan of nursing care which is implemented by the care delivery team under the supervision of the RN. The RN provides and delegates patient care activities to team members based upon patient needs and team member skills/abilities and supervises the delivery of care by other team members. The RN evaluates patient response to treatment and nursing interventions and if needed, revises the plan of care. The RN monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge, utilizing established clinical pathways. Job Description

Clinically and technically assists physicians before, during and after in a variety of invasive and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization and special procedures laboratories. Prepares patient for procedures andmonitors patient status. Inserts and removes arterial and venous lines. Functions as the first assistant to the physician during the invasive procedure. Assists with wire handling, catheter advancement, x-ray controls and equipmentpreparation. Inserts and revoves vascular sheaths from the femoral, radial, brachial artery and vein. Records hemodynamic/physiological vaveforms and performs various hemodynamic/ physiological calculations. Maintains equipment,supply inventory and medical inventory. May adminster emergency medications under the direct supervision of a physician. Assists with basic and advanced life support. Participaties as a team member including providing detailed reportto nursing units regarding the patient and procedure. Job Description

Manages the Sterile Processing Activities which includes case cart preparation sterilization, reprocessing, packaging, and delivery of surgical and patient care instrumentation and equipment used in the operating rooms in the Central Region. Maintains direct supervision of shift supervisors and coordinators.

Additionally, manages the sterilization, production and delivery of instruments to other departments, such as Ambulatory Surgery, the Cardiac Catherization Lab, Angiography, clinics, Emergency Departments and general and acute Nursing Units. Maintains quality control standards, ensuring that established aseptic, sterile and infection control techniques and procedures are followed. The relationship with other DMC regions is collaborative in the standardization of practices, policies, procedures and techniques for the entire Central Sterile Processing function across the system; recommends changes as appropriate.

Monitors the quality and quantity of work flow of Materials Management Coordinators and union Instrument and Central Supply Associates to ensure work is completed. Initiates or recommends personnel actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc., and completes performance appraisals.

Acts as department liaison to hospital committees such as Infection Control and the like. Assists in developing daily, monthly and/or yearly goals and measures for Central Sterile Processing across the system. As requested assists in assessment of goal attainment. Assists in developing and monitoring budget for Central Sterile Processing.

Works with OR directors and OR service coordinators to root cause issues and resolve issues as deemed appropriate by the customer and the department.

Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations, JCAHO requirements and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations. Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers

Job Description: Under general supervision, coordinates an effective Medical Staff peer review process that supports medical   staff reappointment, advancement, and clinical quality in compliance with the Joint Commission including ongoing physician performance evaluation (OPPE) and focused professional practice evaluation (FPPE) standards for the Detroit Medical Center. Identifies clinical and performance improvement opportunities through analysis of, but not limited to peer review findings, departmental and hospital/system metric performance. Involves the appropriate personnel and conducts/facilitates education of medical and hospital staff utilizing continuous improvement methodology, tools and measurement. Serves as a source of expertise in measurement of outcomes of care. Compiles, analyzes and trends physician clinical and quality data collected as part of an integrated system-wide program of clinical improvement and patient safety.

GENERAL DUTIES
1. Performs professional, objective review of the entire medical record of identified cases to determine appropriateness of patient care utilizing critical thinking skills and knowledge of clinical care guideline and evidence-based outcomes. Collects core measure data elements and other national, state or accreditation-required quality data. Shares outcomes on pertinent indicators for assigned populations.

2. Works closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Vice President of Medical Affairs, Department Chief, Specialist in Chief and Peer Review Committee to assess the quality of medical care, identify process deficits, trends and/or remarkable practice patterns. Provides education regarding the peer review process as needed.

3. Responsible for coordinating and supporting an effective physician peer review meeting with the identified physician chair. Prepares and assigns cases for review to Committee members. Maintains clear and detailed documentation on the peer review process. Elicits findings and recommendations from physician reviewers and assures they are properly documented. Maintains system for filing peer review documents.

4. Investigates and follows up on serious adverse events affecting patient care. Conducts timely chart review. Prepares concise summary of the case for ongoing review and escalation as appropriate.

5. Responsible for facilitating current physician performance evaluation (OPPE, FPPE) activities in accordance with Joint Commission and Tenet requirements.

6. Travels to individual DMC sites for the purpose of conducting and performing peer review meetings and follow-up as it pertains to job responsibilities.

7. Identifies and involves appropriate stakeholders when planning, organizing, and implementing change. Shares outcomes on pertinent quality indicators for assigned populations.

8. May be deployed to function in clinical capacity in the event of disaster or hospital emergency.
